THE grand opening of the 34th National Quran Recitation Competition (Musabaqoh Tilawatil Qur’an) at the Provincial level in South Kalimantan was held with great enthusiasm and grandeur at the Dr. Murdjani Banjarbaru Field on Friday, July 21, 2023.

The breathtaking display of lights during the MTQ’s opening night captivated the audience and delegations from 13 districts and cities across South Kalimantan as they witnessed a mesmerizing Islamic-themed Colossal Dance performed by hundreds of dancers.

A total of 1,327 delegations are participating in the 34th National MTQ at the Provincial level in South Kalimantan, all prepared to showcase their talents from July 21 to July 28, 2023. The event was officially inaugurated by the Governor of South Kalimantan, H. Sahbirin Noor.

Governor Sahbirin Noor, affectionately known as Paman Birin, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of applying the teachings of the Quran in everyday life. He emphasized that this competition is not merely a contest, but a way to encourage the application of the Quran in all aspects of life.

“In this extraordinary moment, it’s not just about having a beautiful voice, but the meanings of the Quran should be implemented in daily life, shaping an Islamic society,” stated Paman Birin during his speech.

He further expressed his hope that the MTQ event would help to foster a religious and Islamic community, while also serving as a platform to nurture a generation well-versed in the Quran.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Banjarbaru, H. M. Aditya Mufti Ariffin, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Banjarbaru as the host city for this year’s National MTQ event in South Kalimantan.

“We are committed to welcoming and providing the best service to all MTQ participants from various regions, and we hope to create the best memories during the event,” he said.

Aditya continued by emphasizing the theme of this year’s MTQ, “Let’s Realize an Advanced and Prosperous Society, Guided by the Values of the Quran,” highlighting the significance of upholding the Quran as a guiding principle in this world and the hereafter for all Muslims.

“Let us make the 34th MTQ a platform to spread the teachings of Islam amidst the changing social and cultural currents of our society today. Finally, I congratulate all the delegations participating in this competition, and may Allah SWT always guide and lead us,” concluded the Mayor.@
